Loriaux's System/390 home page (OS/390, MVS, VSE, VM, z/OS, Linux/390) - This site is looking for a sponsor !
This home page is built as a starting point for S/390 (OS/390, MVS, VSE, VM) system-programmers, application programmers and operators on the Internet. It's not just a directory of software and hardware products, but also a place where mainframe professionals can meet, introduce themselves, search for a new job, have their resume hosted. All services are FREE of charge for individuals as well as for companies. A search script is available online, so you won't have to loose your time to find something.

Why do I need a sponsor.

You might wonder what my projects are for the future... Ok then :

Of course, I will improve the existing content of the site.
It surelly would be great to allow people and companies to maintain their link on their own I guess.
These kind of things are a priority.

But there a lot more to do :
I intend to migrate to another provider; don't worry, the address of the site will remain the same. In fact, I already own an account on this new provider and am actually testing its features. This service allows much more space, a dedicated server, php, mysql, mailing lists, lots of pre-installed applications such as portals...
Those of you who are aware about the world of internet servers know that this kind of service allows anything... Hundred of well-tested applications are available in PHP... I could even become your internet presence provider or set up an online office for your company :) I really think there are plenty of things like that we all deserve but also, I must admit I can't pay all these services with my own bucks, so I think time has come to search for a sponsor.

That's why companies interested in a clever investment (that is, something useful to the S/390 community) should read this page to see what the deal is.

  1. To focus on the home page as sole non-office hours professional activity.
  2. To cover the costs and improve the quality of the tools (hardware, software, provider, phone bill, books).
  3. To set up new features such as :

    1. A mailing list server, which would allow to create and take in charge mailing lists wanted by users.
This is a long term project because it supposes dedicated hardware and a permanent high speed connection; so, it supposes higher costs as well as the need to acquire the know how (the ideal would be a TV cable connection and a server using Linux).
    2. Free web accounts for users whom want to create their own S/390 related page.
It shouldn't be difficult to find a reasonable agreement with a presence provider on this point.

Why being sponsor of this site is a good investment.

I'm sure you use search-engines and site directories in your everyday life.
These sites are great, that's for sure... they live on the fee companies pay to put banner ads.
Quite often, the advertisement you get depends on the search keywords you typed during your search.
But, the real question is : as a user, do you pay attention to these banner ? I'd bet NO, 'cause all you want to look at is your search results !
So, does it mean that advertisement on the Internet is useless ?
No ! A good idea is certainly to become the EXCLUSIVE of a site which is highly focused on YOUR business : then you'll improve your image, and people will be grateful because of your support to a service they like.

What would it suppose to be the sponsor of this site.

It is not just a sponsor for the list that I'm looking for but for the entire site and its lists.

Shortly said, it would mean that :

  1. the banner(s) of the sponsor would replace the actual ad banner on each header table on the pages and each page could have a small quote introducing a product of the sponsor.
  2. the sponsor's products will be detailed and when people do a search on the site (http://www.loriaux.com/s390/search.html), these will appear as the first returned links in case of a match.
  3. of course all message sent through the mailing list or as private email will contain a statement "this site is sponsored by..."
All this can be negociated. Minimum term of sponsorship is one month but it is quite obvious that a candidate company interested in a long-term sponsorship would be prefered.

The only things which can't be negociated are :

  1. the sponsor won't have access to the email list of subscribers or people registrated on the site, in order to protect the user from spamming.
  2. the sponsor won't have the right to change the content of the site unless of course if it concerns the sponsor itself. In other words, the sponsor won't have the right to ask me to delete links of a concurrent company.
But I assume you will understand these restrictions.

I'm not trying to make a living with this site, but to have a budget that will allow me to buy material and hosting services without worrying too much about the costs.
