EXPERIENCE DETAILS
Project Title : Sports Illustrated Data Warehouse
Client : Time Customer Services, Florida, USA
Period : September 1997 - present
Position : System Analyst
Responsibilities : Analysis and Design
Work Location : Florida, USA
Work Profile : The project involves development of a Data Warehouse for the Sports Illustrated magazine. Data from different sources, e.g. different magazines, surveys, etc. is extracted, cleansed, and stored in a Data Warehouse that would enable Time Customer Services to analyze customer information in a number of ways. Specific responsibilities included the design of various operational processes to support the Data Warehouse, such as database referential integrity validation, database content reporting, etc. Also worked in design and development of applications for Name Selections from the data warehouse.
Project Title : Database Design Toolset
Period : April 1997 - August 1997
Position : System Analyst
Responsibilities : Analysis, Design, Coding and Testing
Work Location : Madras, India
Work Profile : The project involves the design and development of a toolset that takes as starting point the first cut physical model of a database, and helps the designer in modifying the design for optimal performance in an iterative manner. The toolset takes into consideration the transactions (in terms of the SQLs involved), their frequencies, the user requirements (performance criteria) and suggests alternate index design and de-normalization that could be carried out. The performance model currently being built is for DB2.
Languages : C
Project Title : Y2K Processes and Methodologies
Period : December 1996 - March 1997
Position : Systems Analyst
Work Location : Madras, India
Work Profile : Involved in the "core group" that was set up specifically to address the Y2K problem and various solutions for the same. The task involved defining the processes to be followed and methodologies to be adopted to convert the existing applications (involving COBOL programs, JCLs etc.) so as to make them Y2K compliant. The areas of automation were identified and checklists were prepared for handling the manual changes.
Hardware : IBM 3090
Operating System : MVS
Project Title : Data Compression
Client: : National Stock Exchange (NSE), India
Period : October - November 1996
Position : System Analyst
Responsibilities : Design and Development
Work Location : Madras, India
Work Profile : The project involved developing data compression and decompression modules for a specific application of NSE. The application sends broadcast data (as C data structures) using VSAT. The size of the C structs (generally 300 - 350 bytes) prevented the application from sending more than one struct in a packet, as the packet size is limited to 512 bytes. Huffman encoding along with application specific information were used so that the C data structs could be compressed on the fly before being transmitted. This allowed 2 or 3 such structs to be sent in a packet. On an average, the compression achieved was 40 - 70%.
Hardware : IBM Pentium PCs
Languages : C
Project Title : Client/Server Issues
Period : August - September 1996
Position : Systems Analyst
Responsibilities : Analysis of Client/Server Issues
Work Location : Madras, India
Work Profile : This study involved analyzing and documenting the various issues involved in the design and development of a Client/Server system. Issues such as how many tiers to use, middleware, security, testing, software distribution etc. were studied.

Position : Business Analyst
Responsibilities : Logical Database Design
Work Location : Salisbury, UK
Work Profile : The project involved the logical database design for a new system (called Compass) that would be used for managing the Friends Providents customers. The ER modeling was done using the HPS CASE tool. The complete design, including entity and attribute definitions, was fully documented in HPS repository.
Hardware : IBM 3090, IBM Pentium PCs
Operating System : MVS, OS/2

Work Location : Madras, India
Work Profile : The project involved the conversion of Group Schemes system of NPI from Honeywell Bull to IBM 3090. The source and target platforms were as follows:
Source Target
Hardware Honeywell Bull IBM 3090
Operating System GCOS8 MVS
Database IDS-II DB2
Transaction Monitor TP8 CICS
Language COBOL COBOL II
¨ Number of programs converted was about 2000 and the peak team size was 96.
¨ The conversion was carried out using the filter programs developed by TCS.
Hardware : IBM 3090
Operating System : MVS

Project Title : Maintainability and Performance Enhancements of key ULP programs
Client : Sunlife, UK
Period : July - December 1994
Position : Analyst/Programmer
Responsibilities : Analysis, coding, testing and implementation
Functional Area : Pensions
Work Location : Bristol, UK
Work Profile : The project involved analysis, re-design, testing and implementation of 15 key programs in Sunlifes Record Keeping Subsystem of Unit Linked Pensions application. Three programs were re-written using the Common Access Routines, each of which provided access/update of various DB2 tables for different business conditions.
The remaining 12 programs were re-structured to have efficient data access, and also to make them more maintainable.
